An incredible day of pop-up weddings in Christchurch City
It had been about about a year and half since we last visited Christchurch with our pop-up wedding package, so we were pretty darn excited to be heading back this year - but nothing could have prepared us for just how awesome this day was going to turn out to be. Still. Buzzing.
I think we all know they call it the “Garden City” for a good reason. There are gardens, and lots of them. But in November you could literally smell the scent of roses in the air EVERY WHERE. Jilly & I both squealed everytime we spotted a peony just casually growing in a garden, like it’s totally normal - only down there it is! The grounds and gardens at Avebury House were absolutely poppin’ and I could quite happily live out the rest of my days in their kitchen garden. Anyway… before this turns into one of those life stories you get before an online recipe… see for yourself below just how magical it was, and if you think this might be a bit of you and your boo, we’ll be back again in November 2020 with this same amazing team - strictly limited to 5 spaces!
Congratulations again to all the wonderful couples who made it official on this day - it’s thanks to you and your wonderful family, friends and children that this day was so special for us. That, and when Jamie from The Cake Eating Company surprised us all with coffee!!! <3 <3 <3
Thank you CM Photography for this beautiful photography!

Holly & Jeff
You know what’s cool? Definitely Holly, Jeff and their rad little family. What’s also cool is when two people crush on each other at school but are too shy to act on it (relatable much!), and yet fate finds a way to bring them together later in life, when the timing is just right. At Holly & Jeff’s ceremony, our amazing Celebrant, Sarah Gnad, talked about the “the red thread of fate”, which originates from Chinese legend -
“An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, and circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle. But it will never break. “
If there‘s anything we’ve learnt from witnessing close to 200 weddings over the last six years, it’s that true love is real, and it finds a way! It’s not always the most romantic or direct path - but that makes the day you finally make it official, all the more sweeter.
Shout out to Sailor too, who did an amazing job of walking his mum down the aisle.
Danielle & Dylan
Two words - wedding cape! From the forest green accents, with the vibrant byo’d flower crowns, to Danielle’s romantic and unique dress-cape combo - these two brought a touch of whimsy that suited the garden wedding vibe to a tee. We also loved that they included their adorable dog Ella, in the bridal party too - although I think their daughter won out when it came to cuteness, such a bonnie wee thing.
Dylan’s grandma did a beautiful reading from the book My Hand to Hold, by Smriti Prasadam-Halls. Here’s a little snippet, it was just perfect -
“As every day begins anew,
I love you strong, I love you true.
For all the things you say and do,
For everything that makes you, you.”
Hayley & Craig
I’ll keep it brief because you really only need to see Craig’s smile to understand the strength of the love that these two have - they did not stop beaming all day, becoming a newlywed will do that to ya!
How well do Cressy & Charmed’s florals match with these two! If you’re a bit worried about us picking everything out for you… no need, we work with the best, so everything always turns out amazing (if we do say so ourselves :P).
Caprice & Andrew
These two lovebirds were so chill and relaxed, just taking it all in their stride. Caprice being the clever babe that she is, managed to snaffle a very coveted Art-Deco style dress from ASOS - how good is that! It set the tone really well and again, tied in perfectly with the gorgeous old homestead as the backdrop - all in all a very classy affair. Eat your heart out Gatsby!
Mark & Amber
It was elegance, with a side of more elegance for these two. Amber knew from the moment she met Mark that she would marry him one day - and here we were, 10 years later, after what was meant to be a much shorter engagement, but as we all know, life just happens, and the years go by so quickly - but it really doesn’t matter when you’re with the one, it’ll happen when it’s meant to happen - your wedding day is not the end goal, but just the start of another chapter in the much longer adventure called life.
Amber blew us away with this special feedback - we just loved the chance to help create these memories for you both. x
“Thank you so much, the photos are amazing. We had such a fab day. Cant thank you enough for everything, it was all superb, I couldn't have done it without you. My flowers and cake were perfection, exactly what I would have chosen myself. I feel like on the day I didn’t get a chance to say thanks properly it was all a bit of a blur. Cant recommend what skinny love does enough, you guys are fabulous.”
Wanna get married here? We’d love you to join us on 7 November 2020! 2019 was a complete sell out, so contact us today to save your spot! xx
The Skinny Love Gals
All the gratitude to these babes who also helped us out on one of our busiest days of the summer - we couldn’t have done it with out ya!
