The Basics

Q1. Seriously - why are your pop-up weddings so cheap?

We know, it seems too good to be true. But really, it is 100% true, and kind of clever. We pay for the full-day services of wedding professionals like the celebrant, photographer, florist etc and the venue, but you're only charged for a portion of their time - 90 minutes of their time, in fact. You probably wouldn't be able to book a venue/celebrant/photographer for 90 minutes to do it yourself, but Skinny Love can marry up to five couples in a day - and when we share the cost of professional services between multiple couples, it's a hell of a lot more affordable all up. We get great prices from our excellent vendors when we buy in bulk (for things like bouquets and cakes), which also saves you money. If you're still not sure that it could really be this good, check out what our couples say, and have a look at our gallery.

Q2. How often does Skinny Love happen?

Skinny Love is available all through the year, although we run most of our pop-up dates during the peak wedding season from November to April.

Q3. Can I come from overseas for a Skinny Love wedding?

We love an elopement, and overseas couples are welcome at Skinny Love. While our celebrants are happy to perform marriage ceremonies for overseas couples, be aware that your union might not be recognised legally in your home country without some form of confirmation.

Q4. We're a same sex couple - will Skinny Love marry us?

YES. Love is love is love and we love it all!

Q5. How do I book a Skinny Love wedding?

To secure your space, we'll need a 50% deposit and a signed copy of our Terms and Conditions. Contact us and let us know which date you're interested in and we'll sort out the rest!

Q6. What do I pay and when?

A 50% deposit is required to secure your booking, and then the balance is required one month before the wedding. Easy!

Q7. When should I book a Skinny Love wedding?

ASAP is the best answer - some dates prove to be super popular, so to avoid disappointment we recommend booking STAT. For bespoke and elopements, you still want to give us as much notice as possible, as our team will only have one event per weekend - in the high season we can get booked up!

Q8. What does a Skinny Love wedding look like?

We take a lot of pride in styling Skinny Love. You can be assured that a Skinny Love wedding is super cute and romantic, and held in a great event space. Want to have a look at previous Skinny Love weddings? You can start with our gallery and also check the pictures out at our Facebook page.

Dates and Venues

Q1. Where are Skinny Love weddings held?

We are based in Auckland and currently have four regular Auckland venues for our weddings. From time to time you'll find us making the trip to bring Skinny Love to Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Christchurch too!

Q2. Can I go and have a look at the venue?

In some cases yes, in others no. Some of our venues are private residences and it's not appropriate to visit in advance. Check out our Dates and Venues pages for more images of Skinny Love at our different venues and for specific FAQs that tell you if you can go take a look.

Q3. Can Skinny Love come to my town?

If you want Skinny Love to come to your town, get in touch and let us know - if there's enough demand, we can make the trip! We try our very best to find beautiful wedding spaces that are also interesting. If you want to know more about our venue options, take a peek at the Dates and Venues page.

Q4. Can I choose my own date?

Our pop-up weddings are on specific dates, and are fantastically affordable if you can be flexible about your wedding date. If you have a specific date in mind you want to get hitched, a bespoke Skinny Love wedding or an elopement could be the best option for you!

Q5. Can I get married during the working week?

We run our pop-up weddings on Saturdays, and this is the most popular day of the week for Bespoke Skinny Love weddings too. Skinny Love runs elopements from Monday through Sunday, so take your pick!

Q6. When are new Skinny Love dates released?

We release the majority of our dates in January for the coming season that runs November through April. Depending on demand we can release additional dates throughout the year, generally with at least 9 months notice of the event.

Q7. How can I hear about new Skinny Love dates?

Your best bet is to sign up for our mailing list - not only will our new dates be delivered directly to your inbox, but you'll get first dibs too! You can sign up at the bottom of this page. Like and follow us on Facebook too for hot tips and the latest from Skinny Love.

Q8. What if it rains?

We'll have a great time, rain or shine. Any photographer will tell you that a cloudy day will reap the best light for photos, and we have plenty of tricks up our sleeves to ensure you can get beautiful, dramatic wedding portraits even in a downpour. Our team will even be your Personal Umbrella Holders for the event - how luxe is that??

Q9. Can the venue be decorated in a theme or colour of my choice?

As part of our service we manage the venue styling and decor for our couples - so it's one less thing for you to think about on the day! We take a lot of care when styling our venues and pride ourselves on creating chic backdrops and venue spaces that are in keeping with current trends. We stick to tried and true colour palettes that will suit many couples on one day, in the case of our pop-up weddings! We also throw themed pop-up events like our Fiesta de Amor which is full of colour, inspired by Mexican culture.

Guests

Q1. How many guests can come to my wedding?

For pop-up weddings, the base package includes 20 guests and you can add up to another 10 guests for $39 per head to cover the cost of extra food and drink. For bespoke weddings we can host up to 45 guests, depending on venue capacity. Elopements generally have fewer than five guests.

Q2. Are children welcome at a Skinny Love wedding?

Kids bring a whole new element of fun to a wedding, and they're absolutely welcome. Kids under 5 years of age are free of charge and don't count toward your guest total, you just need to let us know how many are coming.

Q3. Are animals welcome at a Skinny Love wedding?

Sometimes - it depends on the venue. If you have a beloved pet that you think should be part of your big day, get in touch with us and we’ll look into it.

Ceremony

Q1. Oops, I don't have a valid marriage licence.

Oy vey! If you don't have a valid marriage licence on the day, we can't perform a legally recognised wedding. You don't need a marriage licence for committment ceremonies or vow renewals though.

Q2. I want to have a civil union, can you help with that?

Absolutely. Just let us know in advance and bring the required paperwork with you on the day and we'll make it happen!

Q3. Can we have personalised vows?

Definitely! Unlike registry weddings in New Zealand, we encourage our couples to write personal vows for their ceremony. We will ask that you have your vows to us within a month of your wedding though, so no writing them last minute! We will forward your chosen vows to our celebrant so they have a copy on the day... in case you forget yours!

Q4. Do we have to have personalised vows?

No, but it's worth the effort! If you're seriously not into personal vows, you can still be legally wed saying the required legal vows found on the DIA's website - and it will still be beautiful and romantic.

Q5. Do I get to choose the processional song?

Yes! You can absolutely choose your processional song. If we don't have it in our music library, you'll need to provide us with an mp3 or similar digital file of your chosen song.

Q6. Can we include readings in our ceremony?

Yes. You can customise your ceremony as you wish, but remember that we're working to a schedule - we expect ceremonies to take 15-20 minutes at Skinny Love, and if your ceremony takes longer than that, we'll have to cut down your reception and/or portrait session time.

Florals

Q1. Do I get a bridal bouquet?

All our packages include a bridal bouquet - plus you get to choose the palette that suits your style best!

Q2. Do I get a groom's buttonhole?

Yes, all our packages include a buttonhole for the groom.

Q3. Wait a second - we're two grooms!

Then two buttonholes will be provided as part of your package!

Q4. Wait a second - we're two brides!

Then two bouquets will be provided as part of your package!

Q5. Can I get extra florals for my wedding party?

Yes, we're happy to provide matching bridesmaids bouquets and groomsmens buttonholes for an additional fee.

Reception

Q1. What are my options for cakes?

Part of customising your Skinny Love Wedding is you get to pick your cake flavour, plus we offer some great extras like special icing styles and colours, or adding fresh fruits and flowers to your cake. You even have the choice of serving your cake at Skinny Love or 'fake cutting' for photos, then taking the cake home with you after!

Q2. Can we have a first dance?

Certainly - how romantic of you!

Q3. Are you able to provide entertainment for kids?

We can provide a kids table with special activity packs and treats for a small additional fee.

Photography

Q1. Who will the photographer be?

There's a bunch of talented wedding photographers out there, and Skinny Love work with a very select few that we consider the best. Check out who's taking pics on which day over on the Dates & Venues page.

Q2. Can my guests join the private portrait session?

Our photographer will take photos of you and your guests during the ceremony and reception. At the end of your reception, we'll whisk just the two of you away for portraits, then shortly after we'll bring the rest of your wedding party to join in the fun.

Q3. How long will it take to get my photos back?

It takes time to proof and edit your photos. Our photographer will aim to get your photos to you within six weeks of your event.

Q4. I want to bring my own photographer. Is that okay?

If you choose to bring your own photographer, that's fine - but please let us know in advance. We do not give discounts on the price of Skinny Love in these cases, and you'll still receive some photos from our photographer.

We also offer a fun kids corner for a small additional fee if you'd like to keep the kids entertained while you're celebrating!

Elopements

Q1. What makes an elopement different to a normal wedding?

Generally, the big difference between an elopement and a traditional wedding is that it's a very small, intimate affair. Many couples opt to have no guests, or just two guests to act as witnesses. At Skinny Love we can offer elopement packages for up to five guests.

Q2. We don't want any guests at our elopement - just the two of us. Is that possible?

Absolutely! These weddings are so intensely romantic, we love them! The Skinny Love team will be happy to step in and act as witness to your nuptials.

Q3. I don't live in Auckland. Can I have a Skinny Love elopement?

Sorry, at this time we're only offering elopements in Auckland, where the Skinny Love team is based. If you're not in Auckland, a pop-up wedding can easily be adapted into an intimate elopement for two. Our team can still stand in as your witnesses and help you create a personalised ceremony unique to you. Check out our Dates & Venues to see if we have a pop-up date coming up in your location.

Q4. I'm coming from overseas, is it difficult to get married in New Zealand?

It's very easy to get married in New Zealand, and if you're coming from overseas your package will include pre-elopement services where our team will lodge your wedding licence application and we'll come with you to pick it up when you arrive in New Zealand!

Q5. We're a same-sex couple who want to elope to New Zealand - will Skinny Love marry us?

Absolutely, for sure, without a doubt. All love is awesome, so let's get you officially wed!

Q6. Can I elope at any time of year?

Yes, we organise elopements all year round. Our calendar can fill up quickly during the peak wedding months of November-April, so book sooner rather than later!

Q7. What is included in a standard elopement package?

Our standard elopement packages will include the services of a registered celebrant, florals, photography, Skinny Love hosting services, plus a celebration cake and bubbly for after the official business is done too! We can also lodge your licence application if you're coming from overseas, and act as your witnesses on the day as part of the standard package. You can make your package more luxe by adding videography, hair and makeup, a celebratory picnic, or choosing a premium venue to be wed in.

Q8. What are my options for venues if I elope?

Because wedding parties at elopements are so small, you can fit just about anywhere! Many of our couples who elope opt to get married in one of Aucklands many beautiful parks or beaches; we have lots of options - get in touch and let us know what you were thinking of venue-wise and we can help from there!

Q9. How much do elopements cost?
